This set covers Rules of the Road (COLREGS).
Every sailor needs to have a thorough understanding of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS) and should be able to recognize other vessels, interpret their activities and rights of way. This is not always easy, especially in crowded waters or in restricted visibility.
These cards show the view forward from the deck of various vessels (power, sailing and fishing) of developing traffic situations at sea. In each case the mariner has to decide the correct course of action to navigate his vessel through the hazard. The reverse of the card gives the proper course and also quotes the relevant collision rule.
If you are a sailing vessel under power in a narrow channel approaching a fishing vessel - who has right of way? You are a sailing vessel under sail with another sailing vessel approaching from windward but flying a spinnaker - who has right of way? Two power boats approaching each other - which side do you pass? A vessel constrained by its draft is approaching a sailing vessel - who has right of way? The competent captain should be able to answer these questions with ease and instantly know what action needs to be taken.
The cards are playing card sized and feature full color images on the face and answers or explanations on the back.
