As roadside threats and ambushes became more common, the lightly protected Humvees of the 80s and 90s gave way to this heavier, hardened version — with armored doors, ballistic glass, and reinforced protection for the crew.
The result is the Humvee most people recognize from the early years of Iraq and Afghanistan.
