Pre-painted Race Body

Rather than presenting the car in pristine condition before the race, AFX chose to depict it exactly as it appeared the moment it crossed the finish line, adding a special twist to its characteristics. Upon close inspection, subtle details emerge on the driver's side of the car, including a paint scuff on the door accompanied by a silver line above the handle. An intriguing anecdote surrounds the #2 Roundel on the driver’s side door, inviting further exploration. According to an account relayed by the man the myth the legend Carrol Shelby to Steve, the left-side door handle had a tendency to lift at high speeds, prompting the pit crew to secure it with duct tape to prevent mid-race mishaps. Additionally, the race number #2 on the car's sides featured special "roundels," crafted from a highly reflective 3M material to enhance visibility during pit stops. These roundels, affixed with pop rivets, provided a striking yet functional element to the car's design. While the origin of the driver's side scuff remains unclear, its presence is evident in various documented photos taken during and after the race, adding to the car's storied history.
