The Ford GT40 MKIV, arising from the tragic events of 1966, saw limited production with only ten models, half of which competed. Revered for its record-breaking performances at Sebring and Le Mans, the MKIV was meticulously engineered for endurance and speed, uniquely crafted entirely in the United States. Among these iconic cars, the yellow #2 MKIV, constructed on the J6 chassis and race-prepared by Shelby American, debuted with a historic victory at Sebring, driven by Mario Andretti and Bruce McLaren. Despite encountering challenges during the iconic 1967 Le Mans race, including a harrowing incident where the rear bodywork detached at high speed, the #2 MKIV, piloted by McLaren and Donohue, demonstrated remarkable resilience and finished strong in fourth place, contributing to an unforgettable all-American triumph in motorsport history.
